bobpothierLeading Your Culture to Amazing Results - Bob Pothier

Culture management is the most under-utilized leadership skill in the world. In this session I will present two models that, combined, form the basis for leaders to understand and start managing their organizations' cultures to move beyond their current results. This dynamic and interactive session is designed to help participants immediately start to use these models to apply to real business issues. Leaders will walk away with a short list of “to dos” that they can start implementing.

This keynote session is based on the two best-selling books, “The Oz Principle” and “Change the Culture, Change the Game”.

Bob Pothier serves as a Director for Partners In Leadership and brings a wealth of experience that has helped clients create greater accountability and implement culture change initiatives. Bob spent nine years as an executive at General Electric Company where he worked on mergers and acquisitions for GE Healthcare. At GE he worked on over 100 global acquisitions, equity investments, and divestitures and helped lead the strategic planning and execution of GE’s integration process.

Prior to GE, Bob worked for Koch Industries in its Koch Capital group, working on mergers and acquisitions, but focusing primarily on Koch Ventures, its private equity division.

Bob also is a co-author of the book The Happiness Journey and serves as Chairman of the Board of Hapacus, a wellness company.

Since joining Partners In Leadership, Bob has worked with many notable organizations such as Abbott, Baird Capital, Bechtel, Comcast, Genomic Health, Genzyme, Kawasaki, Monsanto, Petronas and US Foods.

With a JD in International Law and Legal Studies from Georgetown University Law Center and a Master of Science in international business from Georgetown, Bob has spent most of his career on business strategy and working with cross-cultural teams. He has worked with both large and small organizations and has consulted, taught and trained hundreds of people in his career as he has helped grow these businesses.

Currently, Bob contributes to the Partners In Leadership column for Inc. Magazine and serves on the board of directors of several non-profit organizations. In addition, Bob has been an adjunct professor and guest lecturer at Baker University (MBA program) and Marquette University Law School.

Listening is a critical skill for leaders hoping to build teams; for individuals wishing to bond with other members of their organizations; for managers hoping to make an impact on their colleagues' performance and for organizations who aspire to excellent customer service.

Contrary to popular opinion, listening is not an automatic response to an individual who is sending a verbal message. The ability to receive the message and understand all that the speaker intends to communicate takes active participation on the part of the listener. This program will explore the importance of active listening, examine why human beings are not effective listeners, give the participants the opportunity to take inventory of their listening skill and provide practical advice on how to adjust personal organizational behaviors to become more involved in the listening process. Creating a listening organization is essential for today's workplace. Everyone should be trained in this necessary skill.

Transformational Thinking and Planning - Elaine Estervig  Beaubien

If you are are going downhill! Transformational thinking – moving with passion towards an ideal that is outside “business as usual” – is necessary to your survival in this rapidly changing world. When strategically planning, most businesses are very good at transitional thinking (often referred to as SWOT Analysis). They focus on leveraging their Strengths, overcoming their Weaknesses, and identifying Opportunities for growth while warding off possible Threats. However, such traditional, transitional thinking can no longer assure success.

In this session we define the “what, why, and how” of Transformational Thinking as a means of visioning amid rapid change. Borders Book Stores are disappearing because their leadership asked the tired question, “How do we become a better book store?” instead of taking a revolutionary tack, as in “How can we best deliver our product in the 21st century?” No organization is immune to sudden obsolescence in this time of rapid change! This presentation explores requirements management and communications processes.  To effectively manage requirements collection, program and project managers must understand scope and requirements management planning processes.  PMI’s Requirements Management Practice Guide provides a Requirements Process Diagram that addresses program and project needs assessment, requirements planning, requirements elicitation, analysis, solution evaluation, and requirements monitoring and controlling activities.  Program and project managers employ business analysis skills to conduct interviews and surveys and to manage group creativity techniques to elicit requirements from stakeholders.  Changes to baselined requirements are subject to governance policies because of potential impact to budgets and funding, schedules, program and project scope, and the ability to obtain desired organizational benefits and goals.  Program and project managers that understand the communications cycle and the Rational Emotive Behavior Model are equipped to effectively engage stakeholders to manage requirements collections processes and activities.
